What are ICT tools?

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools are digital devices, software application. and online platforms that help people create, store, share, and communicate information. In education. ICT tools support teaching and learning by making it easier for students and teachers to access resources, collaborate, and complete tasks efficiently.

My Experience Using ICT Tools: Google Classroom

Google Classroom served as the main platform for managing my classroom activities and learning resources. Before each lesson, I uploaded note, PowerPoint presentation, worksheets, and additional reading materials so that students could access them whenever needed.

I also used Google Classroom to post assignments with clear instructions and submission deadlines. Students submitted their work electronically, allowing me to review and provide feedback directly through the platform. Regular announcements and reminders kept students informed about upcoming assignments, lessons, and assessments.

In addition, I encouraged students to use the comment section to ask questions and share ideas, creating a collaborative learning environment that extended beyond the classroom.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Google Classroom

After using Google Classroom, I found that it greatly improved the teaching and learning process in several ways:

1.  Improved Organization: All lesson materials, assignments, and announcements were stored in one place, making it easy for students to find what they needed.

 2. Better Communication: Students could receive updates instantly and ask questions outside of classroom hours, creating continuous learning opportunities.

3. Increased Student Responsibility: Since assignments and deadlines were clearly displayed, students became more accountable for completing and submitting their work on time.

Challenges Encountered

Although Google Classroom is a very effective tool, I experienced a few challenges. Some students had limited internet access or experienced connectivity issues, making it difficult to submit assignments promptly. At times, students also needed guidance on navigating the platform and locating uploaded materials.

My Experience Using ICT Tools: Microsoft Word

How I Integrated Microsoft Word into My Lessons

While Microsoft Word is commonly used for typing documents, I wanted to use it as a tool to improve lesson preparation, student collaboration, and classroom organization. Instead of creating simple text documents, I designed interactive worksheets, business case studies, quizzes, and formatted templates that students could complete digitally.
For example, during a business lesson, I created a worksheet containing tables, charts, and short-answer questions that students completed using Microsoft Word. I also demonstrated how to use formatting tools such as headings, bullet points, and tables to organize business reports and assignments. Students were able to edit their work, make corrections, and save updated versions without having to rewrite entire documents, making the learning process more efficient and engaging.

Challenges Encountered

The main challenge with Microsoft Word was that students had different levels of computer proficiency. Some required additional guidance on using formatting features, inserting tables, and saving files correctly. Occasionally, technical issues such as unavailable computers or software updates caused minor delays during classroom activities.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my experiences with both Google Classroom and Microsoft Word, I have come to appreciate the important role that ICT tools play in creating an effective and student-centered learning environment. Google Classroom simplified communication, assignment management, and resource sharing, allowing students to stay organized and engaged both inside and outside the classroom. Microsoft Word complemented this by providing a platform for creating professional lesson materials and helping students develop their writing, formatting, and digital literacy skills.

Although I encountered challenges such as internet connectivity issues, varying levels of computer proficiency, and occasional technical difficulties, these obstacles were manageable and provided valuable learning experiences. Overall, both tools enhanced classroom organization, improved efficiency, encouraged collaboration, and supported active learning. As I continue my journey as a trainee teacher, I look forward to integrating more ICT tools into my lessons to create meaningful learning experiences and better prepare students for success in a technology-driven world.
